Kykkos Monastery, delicious small pastries from any bakery.
Day 1: Land in Larnaca, drive to Nicosia.
Have a traditonal Cyprus meze dinner in down town Nicosia.
Day 2: Drive into the Troodos Mountains and see Kykkos Monastery
There is a sanctuary in the back with a gilded room. Almost every single interior wall in the monastery is covered with mosaics. On the way to Kykkos Monastery you will pass a few towns, and other monasteries. It is worthwhile to stop and take a look.
Day 3: Day trip to Limassol
See the Limassol Castle, the Church and the Mosque. Peruse around Old Town
Day 4: Crossover to the Turkish side (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) to Kyrenia/Gime
Visit Bellapaix Abby and the St. Hilarion Castle. The Castle is situated on a hill and will require some strength to climb after you park.
Day 5: Travel to Larnaca
See the Salt Lake and Visit the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque. If you are a diver you should visit the wreck of the Zenobia, a shipwreck only a few hundred meters from the harbor.
I stayed with a friend in Nicosia and did day trips around the Island.
To go into the Troodos Mountains, it is best to have your own transportation.
From Nicosia to Limasol, Larnaca, and other big cities there are regularly scheduled buses. See these websites for info:
Kebabs were delicious cheap options that you can get anywhere. You can find small hor d’oeuvre-like flaky pastries at bakeries filled with cheese, olives, tomatoes that were pretty amazing. And of course you will need to have a sit down meal somewhere and order a meze.
